I was turned on to Algebra Blessett by a friend of mine at Spelman College in Atlanta, Algebra's hometown. Her music is some of the most soulful work I've heard since I first copped Who Is Jill Scott? and after I heard "What Happened" I searched all over for more. All I could find were six tracks under the EP title of Herb Powers Master... bangin' music, but I am eager to hear more. As Algebra explains on her MySpace page, "I didn't have to change my name for the sake of art... I am art... it came with me."
Algebra's style is tough to describe as she hits everything from crunk to neo-soul, but check out this track "What Happened" on which she worked with award-winning songwriter and producer Brian Michael Cox.
