This weekend I'm taking the C Train up to Manhattan to check out the Eyejammie Fine Arts Gallery, which is holding an exhibition of the photography of hip-hop activist and media assassin, Harry Allen. Most of the images are from the mid-1980's and are very rare and previously unseen. During the period, Allen attended Adelphi University in Long Island and, while working at the student radio station, became associated with a wide range of music icons. Artists who appear in much of Allen’s work include Run-DMC, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, LL Cool J and comedian and activist Dick Gregory. The collection is called "Part of the Permanent Record: Photos From the Previous Century," and will be open to the public from through Thursday, August 16. Check out more of the exhibit here.

Been ready for this for a MINUTE! The production is bananas and the verses take me back to NC while I'm in this NY State of Mind. Getback is one-for-one as of right now... and I'm feenin for some more. These dudes are on a sort of tour right now so if you in the Triangle area make sure you get out to Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill on June 26. They'll be in Atlanta at The Loft on June 27 and The Parish at House of Blues in N'Awlins on June 28.
