Video: Urine Nation

I'm a fan of the Internets Celebrities (BO-DE-GA!) and after I saw this one I was dyin'. I think I utilized all options this summer, but after New Year's in NYC a few weeks ago with my boy Jasper, this had me weak.

Tribute to Dave Ellis

I'm relatively new to the hip-hop blog scene, but I was recently smartened up to SumIsh, which was the brainchild of Dave Ellis. Ellis was killed in a fire two years ago today, but I'll let Peter Rosenberg tell you how he remembers him.
Dave Ellis was more than a friend. He was more than a coworker at WMUC in College Park. He was the ultimate hip hop head and truly one of the best human beings I’ve ever known. I’m not a religious guy, but I thank God that I got to spend time with Dave Ellis. He will always be a part of everything I do in hip hop. He died two years ago today in a fire that should have never happened, but will probably happen in another college town soon, because some borderline slumlords bend rules to make money off of kids who are living in unsafe conditions. I love you Dave. See you on the flip side, homey…

This is a wonderful tribute done by Haysoos of Wade Waters and Kenn Starr. 9th Wonder gave me the beat on the strength simply because I told him about Dave and how much Dave lived for true hip hop. Thanks 9th…

The song is hot...

Lil Wayne booked on 3 felony drug charges
Marijuana, cocaine found on rapper’s bus at checkpoint in Arizona

PHOENIX - Lil Wayne was arrested on three felony drug charges Wednesday after federal agents said they found illegal drugs including cocaine on his charter bus at a checkpoint in southwestern Arizona.

The rapper (real name: Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.) was being held at the Yuma County Sheriff’s jail on state drug charges, Capt. Eben Bratcher said.

Carter appeared via video arraignment late Wednesday morning in a court in Wellton, 35 miles east of Yuma.

James Tilson, a local lawyer retained by Carter, said his client was not formally charged and his next court date was scheduled for Jan. 25.

“We will find out by Jan. 25 whether or not the (Yuma) county attorney will file charges or not,” Tilson said. “He is looking forward to his day in court. That’s all I can say right now.”

His bond was set at $10,185. Tilson said they were working on his release.

The 25-year-old faces charges of possession of dangerous drugs, narcotics and drug paraphernalia.

Bratcher said Carter’s bus was stopped about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at a Border Patrol checkpoint near Dateland, Ariz., 78 miles east of Yuma.

Drug Enforcement Administration spokeswoman Ramona Sanchez said a Border Patrol canine unit alerted agents to the presence of illegal drugs on the bus. Among what a search yielded: nearly four ounces of marijuana and just over an ounce of cocaine as well as drug paraphernalia. DEA agents then arrested Carter, who was traveling with 11 others.

Officials also found a .40-caliber pistol registered to Carter, who has a concealed weapons permit in Florida. Authorities are looking into whether he violated any weapons laws in Arizona.

Two other men were arrested with him; they each face a charge of possession of marijuana.

In October, Carter and several other rappers were named in a federal lawsuit filed by music publishing companies, accusing them of sampling other artists’ songs without paying licensing fees.

Rapper Birdman and Lil Wayne won a viewers’ choice award for their song “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy” at Black Entertainment Television’s 2007 Hip-Hop Awards.

Ghostface might leave the game!!!

I can't sympathize for "the kid". Ghost has been putting out crazy albums for a minute but his shit doesn't sell, download era or not. Jay had 425,000 in his first week, is he crying about his album sales??? Or better yet Little Brother; what does Phonte say? "More press than soundscan" but is he crying in his blogs?, NO!, he is giving you download links for his album!!! I do understand how frustrating it can be to work hard on a project and not receive any sales, but music, especially rap, is in a new era now. Jay-Z used the film American Gangster to promote his album, LB used the Getback campaign and sold thousands of "Getback Little Brother" t-shirts (I just bought my Getback hoodie for the winter solstice last night) and showed love back to their fans by putting their fans pics on their MySpace. Rappers can't just "release" an album nowadays and expect the shit to sell, you need some kind of hype to get people to want to spend their money on your music. Take Weezy; I can't count how many Carter 3 advances I've seen in the past 2 years, but you know when his shit drops mad people will buy it and mad people will download it.

Video: Ya Hear Me - JozeeMo

Ya Hear Me (prod. by 9th Wonder) - JozeeMo

This brings a tear to the eye of a Bull City native. Proud that this man gets props on Nah Right, because I've followed him from his interview on Welcome To Durham to his underground mixtapes to his joining the Hall of Justus and working with 9th. He's come a long way, but it's clear he grinds hard.

Twelve Days of Getback

Phonte has been grindin these last three weeks, posting the early drafts of every Getback track. To get the full analysis of every song along with some bangin interviews with the producers (even 9th) of the album, check out the "Twelve Days of Getback" on Little Brother's MySpace.

Meet E. Jones

I first heard about E. Jones a few years back when he started doing some big things with Little Brother and the Hall of Justus. It's tough to describe his style because it ranges from tracks "loopin up soul" to straight Southern club bangers like his latest single, "Mr. Magnificent". I learned a little more about him talkin to Phil and Jamie and started going through his catalog which includes tracks on Darien Brockington's Somebody To Love, The Hall of Justus' Soldiers Of Fortune and Talib Kweli's Eardrum. Check out his work on "Mr. Magnificent" by new rapper, Small World, who hails from Raleigh (which I will never refer to as "Ruff"). With Ludacris on the hook the track has been beatin up the radio over the last few weeks.

If you from the Durham-Raleigh-Chapel Hill area, you probably recognize all the women in this video... BINGO!

Also check out E. Jones on Episode 5 of Cooking With Phil.
